SERVICES
ObstetricsObstetrics (from the Latin obstare, "to stand by") is the medical specialty dealing with the care of women and their children during pregnancy (prenatal period), childbirth and the postnatal period. Midwifery is the non-surgical equivalent.
Dr. Selke's practice is focused on obstetrical care and she participates in a call group where there is always a doctor on call at the hospital for our patients. There are approximately 16 doctors who take care of our patients when Dr. Selke is not on call. We believe that we have a very experienced and skilled group of doctors and nurses who care for our patients when we are not available. Click for more information about BC Women's Hospital. |
GynaecologyGynaecology or gynecology is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina, and ovaries). Literally, outside medicine, it means "the science of women". Almost all modern gynaecologists are also obstetricians (see Obstetrics and Gynaecology).
Drs. Selke and Fitzsimmons offer full gynecologic services through our office, and we perform surgery at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital. We also do some day care procedures through BC Women's Hospital Gynecology Daycare. Go to RESOURCES for links to informative web sites. |
